A world-class city like ours deserves a world-class performing arts venue – and we certainly have that and more with our beautiful Tobin Center. Located along the banks of the River Walk, the Tobin Center features the historic Municipal Auditorium, with its original 1926 facade preserved, coupled with modern architecture and advanced technology to create one of the most flexible multi-purpose performance halls in the United States.
Therefore, in honor of our city’s 300th anniversary, I’m ranking the Tobin Center #16 on my 300 Reasons to Love San Antonio list.
Named for Robert L.B. Tobin, one of our city’s most prominent residents, the center promotes a diverse range of cultural, educational and artistic experiences that improve our quality of life in San Antonio. The Ballet, Opera, Symphony, Youth Orchestra and Chamber Choir all perform here, as does the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio. Entertainers such as Paul McCartney, Boy George, k.d. lang, Aziz Ansari and, more recently, Paula Abdul, have all raved about their experiences here.
The Tobin Center is a shining beacon of creativity, fine art and downtown development. There is no better place – anywhere – to see and hear a live performance. Another great reason to live, work and retire in San Antonio!
