Outdoor ice skating – in sunny San Antonio? Yes! Thanks to the Rotary Club of San Antonio, we now have a Holiday Outdoor Ice Rink in Travis Park! The rink opened after Thanksgiving and will remain open through January 2020. More than 25,000 skaters are anticipated to take to the ice in what’s dubbed the “Coolest Place in Town.”

General admission is $10 and skate rentals are $4 per person. Proceeds go toward the Rotary Club’s community projects, such as stipends for low-income students.

Bringing the rink into existence took about two years of planning and work, according to Rotary Club President Brandon Logan. When he was elected president-nominee of the nonprofit service organization, he immediately considered ways he could bring a “profound and positive impact” to San Antonio’s urban core.

“The underlying thought process was trying to understand what could bring varied cultures together,” Logan told the Rivard Report. “I had to think, what would be that gathering place for enjoyment? And an outdoor ice skating rink came to fruition.”

Well done, Rotary Club! In honor of San Antonio’s 300th anniversary, I’m ranking the Rotary Club Ice Rink No. 49 in my 300 Reasons to Love San Antonio list. Another great reason to live, work, buy a home and enjoy some innovative entertainment here in San Antonio.
