Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there! If you’re anything like my dad was, you’ll likely be playing a round of golf at Brackenridge Park Golf Course today, the oldest 18-hole public golf course in Texas.
Located in historic Brackenridge Park, the course opened for play in 1916. Back then, there were only three other courses in San Antonio – all private. Golf enthusiasts advocated for a public course, and, in October 1915, it was reported that the 18-hole Brackenridge Park Golf Course was under construction. Noted course designer A.W. Tillinghast was hired to design and build the golf course.
Today, we’re lucky enough to have five additional municipal golf courses in San Antonio: Cedar Creek Golf Course, Mission del Lago Golf Course, Olmos Basin Golf Course, Riverside Golf Course, San Pedro Driving Range and Par 3 and Willow Springs Golf Course.
I enjoy golf, too, and have so many wonderful memories of playing golf with my dad. He loved to walk the course and he played beautifully.
In honor of our city’s 300th Anniversary, I’m ranking Brackenridge Golf Course #59 in my 300 Reasons to Love San Antonio list. Another great reason to live, work, invest in real estate and enjoy life in San Antonio.
