What a crazy stretch of snow and ice! Last week reminded me of my many winters living in Santa Fe. The snow is beautiful, but I was quite ready to see it move along. I hope you and your families – and your homes – emerged from our shivering cold spell without any problem, though I suspect local plumbers and landscapers are experiencing a boom in business!

We’re off to a great start this year in San Antonio real estate. We sold 2,146 homes in January with the average sales price at $320,055 (a big jump from $294,106 in 2020) and the median sales price at $263,380 (up from $250,000 in 2020).

People are moving here in droves – and we’re rolling out the welcome mat. Randy Smith, CEO of Weston Urban and vice chair of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, issued an excellent appeal to San Francisco Bay Area executives, extolling our diversity, technology expertise and the chance to make a positive difference. Randy wrote: “Our competitive advantage, our differentiator: San Antonio is a city you can help build in your lifetime. We are a community where you can move the needle in all the best ways.”

We continue to be recognized for our fast growth and affordability. Redfin recently gave us a nod, noting that 2021’s hottest housing markets are in Tucson, Tampa and San Antonio while Austin, Phoenix and Miami are becoming unaffordable.

I say this every month: San Antonio real estate has never been better. And with mortgage rates at historically low levels – it all adds up to a smart investment for all of us.
