San Antonians and visitors to San Antonio: If you haven’t visited Hemisfair Park recently, you’re in for an incredible treat. Since the creation of the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) 10 years ago, Hemisfair has undergone a gorgeous makeover, complete with plazas, courtyards, green space, art and cultural amenities, residences and local businesses.

Stretching from the corner of East Cesar Chavez and South Alamo streets to East Market and 281, you’ll find CommonWealth Coffehouse & Bakery, Con Safos • Cocina y Cantina, Paleteria San Antonio, Chocolazzo, Sugar Sugar and Dough Pizzeria. Magik Theatre is a key part of the park, staging children’s classics and offering educational programs. Tower of the Americas, No. 42 in my 300 Reasons to Love San Antonio list, looms overhead – with the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and Institute of Texan Cultures all nearby.

The beautiful Yanaguana Garden ties it all together with big, shady trees to help keep everyone cool and comfortable. This free park features a fun series of public art installations – appropriately called “PLAY.” While children are a primary audience, the installations that make up PLAY possess a depth of meaning that appeals to a wide age range. There’s also a lively splash pad, a sand play area and giant chess and checkers pieces and four huge boards to play on. Looking for a more classic experience? Nearby you’ll find regular-sized checker boards with standard sized pieces. You can even get your namaste on at Blue Cat Yoga!

I love the Hemisfair Park tagline: “Hemisfair: Where San Antonio Meets.” It truly is. Hemisfair Park is a popular spot for school field trips, birthday parties, group outings, picnics, date night or just a nice place to stop and enjoy a few minutes of rest – or a few minutes of entertainment. There’s always something exciting going on!

And best of all? It’s dog friendly! Just keep your furry friends on a leash.

In honor of San Antonio’s 300th anniversary, I’m ranking Hemisfair Park No. 43 in my 300 Reasons to Love San Antonio list.

Another great reason to live, work and buy a home in San Antonio!
