It’s holiday time – and for those of us in San Antonio, that means Holiday Tamales. At every party you go this time of year, chances are you’ll be greeted by a beautiful, festive platter stacked high, pyramid style, with these corn husk-wrapped meat-, cheese-, veggie- and even fruit-filled tasty treats.

How popular are tamales during the holiday season? They’re so popular that Alfonso’s Mexican Food Market on San Antonio’s east side is literally busy making millions of them right this very minute.

There’s no shortage of great places to find tamales in San Antonio. Among our local favorites: Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery (of course!), B&B Tamales, Tellez Tamales & Barbacoa, Delicious Tamales – the list goes on. In fact, you can find the best Yelp and Google recommendations for tamales spots here at mySA.

In honor of our city’s 300th anniversary – and our holiday tamale tradition – I’m ranking Holiday Tamales #17 on my 300 Reasons to Love San Antonio list.

Happy Holiday Tamales – and don’t forget the sauces and salsas! Another great reason to live, work and retire in San Antonio.
