We’re now well into our ninth week of sheltering in place in San Antonio, and we Realtors are as busy as ever. Our April home sales were slightly down, but our population continues to grow like crazy! In fact, according to the Census, we’re the second-fastest growing U.S. city for the second year in a row!
San Antonio is now home to an additional 17,237 people, pushing our population to 1,547,253. Only Phoenix is rising faster, adding 26,000 to its population of 1.7 million. Austin is the third-fastest growing, with 16,439 new residents bringing our state’s capitol closer to the 1 million mark.
San Antonio’s draw? Our city is gorgeous, of course, and new jobs are available in a number of sectors. Plus, our housing prices remain the most affordable of any big city in Texas. So tell your friends far and near to come join us in Alamo City – the more the merrier!
We sold 2,748 homes in April, according to the San Antonio Board of Realtors. While that’s an 8 percent dip over this time last year, home sales across Texas decreased by 17.4 percent – more than double than what we’ve experienced. With interest rates at an all-time low, San Antonio real estate is still in an extremely strong position compared to our neighbors.
Home prices are inching up, though. Our average sales price is now $275,331, a 4 percent increase over this time last year. Our median price is $241,500, a 5 percent increase. Our average price per square foot is $129 – a 3 percent increase.
